Traction Alopecia

Traction Alopecia

Traction alopecia is a type of hair loss caused over time by constant pulling on hairs from their follicles.

What Is Traction Alopecia?

Traction alopecia is a type of hair loss that occurs when a pulling force has been applied to the hair over a long period of time, for example from hair extensions and tight styles. The hair is lost due to the persistent force and in some cases the follicle is severely damaged resulting in permanent loss.

Traction Alopecia

Common symptoms of this condition include the gradual thinning of hair, especially around the hairline and temples. Individuals with Traction Alopecia may also notice small bumps or pustules on the scalp, which can be a sign of inflammation. Other symptoms may include itchiness, tenderness, and even hair breakage.
